An October's Day

I tried not to let thoughts of approaching cold weather interrupt the sunshine and warmth, sights and smells on this gorgeous October day.

The pungent smell of burning leaves, fresh cut firewood and Windex fill the air as the final outside chores are checked off the to-do list .

Beautiful birch branches lay on the lawn as Dave surveys his wood pile.  Is he thinking about how many more trips to the woods he needs to make before the stockpile is enough to get through the winter?

I hope he is also thinking about the project I mentioned to him earlier that involves those birch branches!

Wood neatly stacked in the backyard after it is split.

Pointing the camera up through the maple leaves captures what it must feel like to be a squirrel!

Our maples in the front yard are some of the last in the neighborhood to show off their golden orange and yellows.

Look at that blue October sky!!

I've added some twinkly lights to a potted shrub in the backyard.

I see Dave didn't forget about the project I mentioned earlier!  Since the Green Bay Packers won today he was in a pretty good mood.
It's nice getting a little head start on a Christmas decoration!

Hope your October Day was filled with sunshine and wins!

What GORGEOUS pictures. Thank you so much. Our leaves are just starting to turn.
That is quite a stockpile of wood you have there.
Nothing like the smell of burning leaves ~ something NOT allowed here.
    Hugs :)

  3. I am a Packers fan, too. I once saw Aaron Rodgers meeting a young lady with Down Syndrome who was a big fan, and his kindness touched my heart. I love watching them! I lost my voice when they won the Super Bowl!
That is one impressive wood pile! I can only imagine the work that went into it! Your maple trees are beautiful! and I love your red house...what a lovely picture!
    Have a great week,

Your yard is so pretty, I just love the orange maple leaves against a red house...My mister has been hard at work too...well truthfully we both have...gotta get those projects done before the snow flies...Sending greetings from Maine, Julie.

  7. It looks so pretty and it must be nice to have real fall in October. I love that star. I am also very envious of your very nice wood pile.
It is wonderful and I remember how it was all gone by last year. We still have to get our wood in for the winter.
It just isn't cold enough yet and won't be for awhile.

  9. Uhmmmmm, love the smell of walking outside, looking at the fall leaves and smelling wood burning fireplaces heating the house before the real heating has to take place. That is a very comforting aroma and defines fall to me as much as autumn leaves and pumpkins.

    Have great evening.

  10. What a satisfying feeling to have the wood all ready for winter. Your pile looks so neat. We had our wood cut in June this year to try to get it cures early for a change and you know what kind of wet summer we had, lol. Mother Nature was laughing at us. It's hard getting ahead sometimes.

My old bones are afraid of winters now and they creak and crack when it's cold.

The birch star will be awesome. It's good to start the decorations early. It's not too early to start putting the lights on while the weather is still warm in the afternoon.

    Have a wonderful week.
    Hugs,
    JB
