Wild Horses!

It's a common dilemma among rug hookers to take a decent photo of our hooked rugs.  Some days it seems they photograph better than others.  I took some photos today of my completed Wild Horses rug and was hoping for a little better results.  All photos were taken indoors with and without a flash.  I plan to try again outdoors in the natural light which seems to work better for some rugs.
The Lucy Blue wool from Heaven's to Betsy finally arrived and was the perfect blue I needed to finish the background on my Wild Horses rug. It is the wool in the upper left and right corners.

For now I have it displayed above a primitive chartreuse cupboard in the studio.  It really picks up the golds in the rugs and some of my favorite wools in the cupboard.  As much as I love the vibrant  colors there are days I yurn to see only neutrals and soft shades of something.   I am working on a collection of neutrals in one area of the studio.  Can you tell I'm bound and determined to hook something outside my norm of vibrant colors?  I've come to the conclusion that I have to start with a good supply of wools.

I'm off to the studio to finish some projects, tear and wash some new wools and dream up a new project or two!   Wild horses can't keep me from doing what I love!!
May your weekend be filled with unbridled creativity!!

I ADORE your wild horses rug my dear! That blue really was perfect. It looks awesome above your old cupboard. And those yummy wools would entice any rug hooker to get busy! I love looking at the glimpses of your studio you share with us. It looks like a most inspiring place to be. BTW, you picked the perfect name for your rug. You are so good at that! Hugs, Lori

  5. what a wonderful rug, and the color choices are fantastic. Your cupboard looks so great and especially with all those wools. top shelf 2nd row, is that a soft teal blue, keep looking for the right teal and going crazy, either too green or too bright, looking for faded out and yours look great in the picture. Keep on hooking. Kaye

  14. Great rug! I'm curious - is "Lucy Blue" (Heavens to Betsy) the lighter or darker of the blues? I am still waiting for my swatches but have that one on my "probably" list until my swatches arrive. Just want to know if it is the lighter or darker. "Little Boy Blue" is another nice blue, more of a navy when hooked up.

  15. Kaye..... the blue on top shelf is "Polly Peacock" from Heaven's to Betsy. A wonderful soft shade of tealy blue towards the gray tones. Hooks up a lighter value of gray blue.

Jan..... the Lucy Blue is the darker blue in the top corners of the Wild Horses Rug. In my opinion it is a medium value 'tealy' blue. Gorgeous wool.... I've got only a quarter yard or so left of " Little Boy Blue" ..... wonderful mixed with black in a dark background..... Can never have enough of those great darks for backgrounds!

Thanks to all for such wonderful comments on my Wild Horses Rug! My head is getting bigger with each comment!! LOL!! It boosts my self confidence tremendously!! Hugs!!!!

  16. Cathy,
What a fabulous rug and a great photo image. Can't wait to get busy and start hooking again. I have a couple of horse and dog rugs calling my name. And I close on the 25th of this month! Wool room here we come! After four years, all my wool, etc. will be in one spot.

  17. Cathy, your fingers worked magic on that rug. The colors are so very appealing and the rug looks great above that cupboard. I wish that I would have time to be creative but by the end of the day I think that my creativity is washed down the shower drain along with the sweat and hay dust.
    Have a great weekend.
    Hugs, JB

  18. I, too, love the rug...........but I have to admit......I'd have to fight with "acorn hollow" over that gorgeous cupboard! It matches my eyes, afterall. LOL.
Girlfriend, can I come up and play at your house for a couple of days??? I don't eat much and I am real tidy with a vacuum!
Hum? Can I? Can I? LOL
