The Other Half of the Kitchen Remodel

When we decided to go ahead with our kitchen remodel a few months ago it was with the knowledge that only one side of the room would get new cabinets.  The other side of the galley style kitchen would keep the old cabinets on the bottom with a cosmetic update, namely paint and new hardware.
The counter top would also have to be replaced because of the hole the old cooktop left in it.

Last weekend hubby and I took on the project of building a new countertop and finishing it with new ceramic tile.  Something neither one of us had ever done!  Well, we accomplished the task but not without a few tense moments and a few disagreements on how it should be done.
Dave is examining the grout and leaving a finger print.... LOL!   I think we were both amazed the tile  actually turned out fairly decent.

After a new paint job and some new hardware I think it has come together rather well!

This week we will be waiting for our electrician to install a couple of recessed lights in the soffit over the cabinet and another outlet or two. You can never have too many electrical outlets in a kitchen!

Oh... that wall behind the counter... well I have an idea for that.  You'll have to stay tuned to see what it is!  I have been watching HGTV's Fixer Upper show for some ideas!  Do you watch Fixer Upper? It's my most favorite show to watch right now... much to hubby's dismay!  LOL!  There's always another project on the horizon!

  1. Good for you, it doesn't even look like the same cabinet!

  2. Looks great Cathy. I love those home improvement shows. If I won the lottery I'd tear this place apart. Lol

  3. It looks lovely. You both have done a wonderful job.

  4. Looking good Cathy! You two did a GREAT job. I adore Fixer Upper!! It's my favorite show too.
    Hugs, Lori

  5. Cathy ~
It came out G-R-E-A-T!!! You should be very happy.
    Hugs :)

  6. How nice ~ can't wait to see what you come up with. You are so clever.

  7. WOW! You guys did a great job! Really look professional.
Can't wait to see what you do to the wall.
No I don't watch Fixer Upper. And for my family's sanity, I probably shouldn't start. LOL!

  8. Oh Cathy! You guys are a great team! Those cabinets and counter look awesome!!! Love the color of the cabinets and the tiles go perfect! Looking at pics of your kitchen I think I AM watching HGTV! :-)

  9. Cathy, your new cabinets looks so nice and you have a great taste for colors. You do make a great team. I never look at those shows because I hardly ever watch TV anymore but I have been known to keep my husband busy with projects. He stays away from building projects now, hires a couple of old friends to do the job. His knees can't take the stress anymore.

I'm looking forward to the finished wall behind the counter. Keep us informed.

  10. Looking great Cathy, loving the new kitchen so far.Blessings Francine.

  11. Beautiful job on that side of your kitchen. I'm excited to see the next step on the wall.

  12. Beautiful job Cathy! Can't wait to come up again and see it in person.

  13. The kitchen has made a huge transformation; I love it and know you do too.

  14. So far, so good. Well, sometimes you have to knock things down before you can build new heights, and this is obviously one of the cases. Just keep to the template of the remodel that you have in mind, and then make sure you stick to it as you go along. Good luck!

  15. Hi Cathy - oh how beautiful it has become!
I love the newly painted cupboards on that side of the kitchen - I so like it when there are two different styles going on - very homey looking.

  16. Beautiful job and I love the paint color !
Will be watching for the back splash.

  17. What beautiful work with your rugs and your remodel. I have had tree work done and it is so amazing!
    Hugs cheri

  18. Looks wonderful.
I too love the color you chose.
    Woolie Blessings

  19. It seems like the Orange Sink won’t give up without a fight! Haha! Anyway, it’s nice that you’ve progressed well with your kitchen remodel. I hope everything turned out nicely in the end. Good day!

  20. Wow! The new new tiles on you countertop look great. They really complement the paint work. The cabinets look so much better as well. You really did a great job in there! I'm sure you're very happy with the successful renovation of your kitchen. Thanks for sharing that! All the best!
