Well, finally here is my completed rug which I am calling America.  I guess that's a no brainer huh?  As you probably noticed I changed the design a bit and decided to make the finished rug which is about 12 by 12 inches into a pillow.  I've already had a couple of requests for the pattern and a kit or two ( I am working on this so beg your patience).  The lighter blue background wool is one I dyed  awhile back and do you think for the life of me I can find the paper I wrote the dye formula on!  Sheesh!  Lately things just haven't been going my way!

Case in point.... on Tues. my friend Lisa Halverson and I took a nice trip out to my friend Sue's place for a nice day of looking at her antiques and the restored cabin full of antiques on their farm.  It was a beautiful day and while taking the short stroll from her house to the cabin I happened to walk across a nest of ground bees.  I didn't realize one had flew up the pants leg of my jeans until I knelt down in the cabin to take a photo of something!  OMG!  I knew immediately I had a bee in in my pants!!  The sting was for certain the sting of a ground bee for I have been stung by these vengeful little creatures before!  A couple of years ago one flew up the leg of a pair of white knit shorts I was wearing and stung me in the tender flesh of the upper inner thigh!  Now let me tell you that was no pleasant thing as the pain put me out of commission  for a few days and I actually felt sick for a couple of days.
So needless to say I felt a little worried after this latest attack and as I dropped my jeans ( Sue was yelling at me " get those jeans off!"..... right there in front of everybody!  Flashing through my mind also was the fact I had put on a pretty new pair of polka dotted underwear that morning instead of my usual kind of ratty ones with holes I wear around most days...... am I the only one?  LOL!
I digress...... so back to the "sting" ..... the dirty little ground dweller flew out of my pants and disappeared somewhere leaving me with two pretty good bites on the lower fatty part of my leg and another near the knee!
I have been nursing these bites for a couple of days now taking ibuprofen and putting hydrocortisone cream on them with cold packs.  They swelled up pretty good but fortunately I haven't gotten the flu like symptoms as in the past.  I don't think I'm allergic to bees..... the durn things are attracted to me though it seems!
Well, my mission to take photos of Sue's house and her cabin ( which are both just out of this world filled with gorgeous primitives and antiques) to share with you did not get squelched!  I bravely went on despite the numbness growing in my leg to take a lot of photos!  I will share them with you shortly but here is one to wet your appetite!

Oh yes!  How is this for starters?  One of Sue's beautiful old blue painted cupboards with a stack of early painted pantry boxes!  She has an eagle eye for collecting the good primitives and has been collecting for many many years!  I know you will love seeing her house and cabin!  I will post as soon as I can ( I have been trying to get ready for a garage sale at my mother's tomorrow and not much fun with my bee stung leg).
Bless your hearts for your patience!

Cathy G

  1. Beautiful pillow!!! I best hook Mr. Chill so I can get this pattern with a clear conscience! lol! So sorry about your bee sting! But good thing you wore those new polka dot panties! lol! When I get stung by any bee... it swells HUGE and gets red and hot. What helps a whole bunch is making a paste from baking soda and water. Thick-thin enough to spread onto the bite and stay put. Sit and let it dry hard. This draws out the poison and helps the swelling go away quicker. Rinse residue away with cool water. Good luck with the garage sale!

  2. Oh Cathy, I am almost falling off my chair laughing at the underwear story! I completely understand. Lol I can almost see you hopping around getting your pants off. I will never look at polka dot panties again without thinking of you :)
On a serious note, the pillow is darling and that kit will fly off the shelves.

  3. Oh Cathy...first off I must say...your hooked pillow is so awesome, and when you find that durned recipe for that blue, would ya be so inclined to share ???....lol Love it !!!
and now,...I think what you got there was a case of a peepin' bee !!! That feller just wanted a peek ee boo at your purty new bloomers and in the meanwhiles, he luvved 'em so much, he thought they was some polkie dotted posies and tried to et them !!!
I sure hope you are feeling better...I ended up with blood poisining all the way up my arm one time from a stinkin jellow jacket sting on my hand....They hurt....

  4. Too bad the little bugger got away instead of having the satisfaction of squishing him! They sound like nasty insects. I hope the pain goes away quickly. See, the Mom's were right when they said to wear your better underwear in case of emergency when going away somewhere!
Love your America pillow. Great colors!
Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures of your friend's home and antiques.

  5. Wow! Talk about a bee in your britches! YIKES! Thanks for the teaser with the first pic you shared, can't wait to see the rest.

  6. O Cathy I feel for you as I've been bitten on the thighs by bees as well and eventho the thights might have alittle more flesh on them that feet it still hurts like the dickens! And then after the stinging goes away you itch yourself to death. Blasted bees

    Love your pillow design.

  7. I stepped on a ground bee barefoot once...so I know how you feel. OUCH. Love your America pillow. I only have one word for that pic of Sue's home...gorgeous. Thanks for sharing! Take care, Janice

  8. Oh what a great story but I feel sorry for you about the bee stings I mean. The polkadot panties was hilarious but at least you were not wearing a J string, lol.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the pictures. How brave of you to keep the camera going while you've got bees in your pants.

I love your America rug. Just love those colors.

    Take care, hugs. JB

  9. I sure hope your bee stings are better. That mean ol' bee needed a good squish for having you show everyone your new polka dot undies!
Love the pillow the colors are just perfect. Hope your garage sale goes well.

  10. Love your America rug. Oh I am so sorry about your bee sting..But you sure had me giggling. Polka dots.:) Love the cupboard too.
    Have a great sale.

  11. OUCH! You poor thing! I am sure it's a lot more funny how than it was at the time. Glad you're feeling better. Fun pillow...forget about the dye recipe and I bet it shows up when you least expect it. XXX

  12. Love your new pillow. The blue background is soo wonderful! Sorry about the bee stings...but you made us all laugh with your story!
That blue cupboard is so nice, too....one of my favorite colors! Thanks for making us smile!

  13. Oh Cathy - Only you! LOL The story is funny but I'm sure dealing with the "sting" isn't! Hope it goes away real fast! I too am prone to being bitten - if there are 10 people with me - seems the mosquito's, bees, yellow jackets hone in on me - Now growing up my Dad told me it was cause "I was the sweetest one on the porch" - so that's my story to this day and I'm sticking to it - So you must be "sweet" like me - LOLLLLLLLLLLL Okay - no shovel needed - i know it's getting deep! Love your pillow! You have your own style with designing and I just love everything!

  14. So sorry you were hurt, that's miserable! Thank goodness for polka dots. Hope the sale goes well, more pictures, please!

  15. Oh you poor thing!!! Hope you feel better soon!!

  16. Wow - you sure know how to get a laugh out of a bad situation. Hope the swelling has subsided and that you are back to normal (whatever that is). Loved the new panties part - and aren't you sooooo glad that you made that decision. Did your mother drill that into your head - mine did - something like "always wear clean and no-holes underwear, in case you are hit by a car. Why the heck did they worry about that in the overall scheme of things.... but she never said anything about ground bees. The pillow is awesome - as always. I think I see another pillow with red polka dots and a bee ..... hmmmmmmmm

  17. I love your pillow! so sorry you got stung I had a wasp sting at easter but it doesn't seem bother me as much as it does you. It hurt I took some benyryl and it was fine.
that blue cupboard be still my heart. I love it so much.

  18. The pillow is wonderful!I hope you feel better soon.

  19. Ouch, Cathy! Sorry about your meeting with the bee...hope you are recovering quickly. Aren't you glad that you listened to your mother's advice and put on "good" underwear before you left the house (at least I remember MY mother giving that advice when I was little).

LOVE, LOVE the picture of the painted cupboard and pantry boxes. Can't wait to see more...thanks for sharing.

  20. By the way, I love how your Americana pillow turned out...you had me laughing so much about the bee in the pants, I forgot to tell you how much I liked the pillow!
    Linda (again)

  21. Your pillow looks great Cathy! Hope your leg is feeling better real soon! Isn't it amazing how something so very tiny can cause so much pain!

  22. OUCH! Cathy, I do hope you are on the mend and back to your old self SOON. I love your Americana design, beautiful shades of wool blended so nicely. I hope sunshine and warmth has found you. Greetings from Maine, Julie.

  23. Ouch! Poor you!! But YEA for polka dot panties!! (Why is it that the old "broken in" pairs always fit better?) ;o) I love your America pillow - what fun colors!! But that blue cupboard and those painted pantries....oh my HECK!!! That photo needs to be in a magazine somewhere!! Hugs ~ Robin
